What's new
Every release since 1.0, newest first. Point releases are bug fixes and small polish; a new middle number means a feature worth reading about. The same list is a feed at /feed.xml.
3.2.1 current 2026-10-02
A maintenance build hardening the Modbus float decoder and the noise-band measurement.
- A word-swapped float on Modbus RTU could decode to a plausible small number instead of being rejected; the decoder now refuses values outside the declared range and says which word order would fit.
- The noise band was measured across the whole capture rather than only the quiet section before the step, which overstated it on fast loops.
- The residual warning threshold is shown as a figure on screen instead of being described in the manual alone.
3.2.0 2026-09-24
The generic ASCII serial profile and per-loop margin targets.
- The generic ASCII serial profile: a dozen lines of text describing read and write commands for controllers with no standard interface.
- Per-loop margin targets, stored in the loop file, so a flow loop and a jacket temperature loop no longer share one policy.
- Write confirmation now shows the register or node identifier beside each value.
3.1.2 2026-07-15
Report and overlay fixes.
- Report export produced an empty second page when a capture had no operator note attached.
- The overlay misaligned two captures whose sample rates differed, instead of resampling the slower one.
3.1.1 2026-06-02
OPC UA robustness and a polling cap.
- A timeout on one OPC UA node aborted the whole poll rather than marking that node unavailable.
- Polling is capped at five samples a second; earlier builds allowed ten.
- Linux builds failed to see serial ports whose name did not begin with the usual prefix.
3.1.0 2026-05-07
Saturation detection and integral-unit conversion.
- Output saturation is detected and reported during a capture, since a bump that hit the valve stop gives a gain which is too small.
- Integral unit conversion between seconds, minutes and repeats per minute, declared once per loop.
- The damped-response rule can be compared against lambda side by side.
3.0.0 2026-03-10
Linux builds, the margin view on the main screen, and a documented loop-file format.
- Linux builds for x86-64.
- The margin view moved onto the main screen, with the frequency at which each margin is measured.
- Loop files gained a documented format, so a register map survives being handed to a colleague.
- Removed the old two-panel layout.
2.3.0 2025-12-11
Pre-trigger buffer and the before-and-after overlay.
- Pre-trigger buffer of four minutes, so the quiet period before a decision to step is already recorded.
- The before-and-after overlay with integral of absolute error, overshoot, rise and settling time tabulated.
2.2.0 2025-10-08
OPC UA and read-back verification on every write.
- OPC UA connections with address-space browsing.
- Read-back verification after every write, with a failed write reported as failed rather than silently accepted.
- Dead time was underestimated by one sample interval on captures slower than two seconds.
2.1.0 2025-08-20
Noise-band measurement and a live lambda slider.
- Noise band measurement with advice to leave derivative at zero above roughly two per cent of span.
- The lambda slider redraws the predicted response as it moves, rather than on release.
2.0.0 2025-06-18
Parameter write-back, macOS builds and perpetual licences.
- Parameter write-back, behind the three-column confirmation that has not changed since.
- macOS builds, universal for Apple silicon and Intel.
- Report export as a PDF produced on the machine itself.
- Licences became perpetual files instead of the yearly key used during the first winter.
1.2.0 2025-02-26
Modbus RTU and historian import.
- Modbus RTU over RS-485.
- Historian and CSV import, including units confirmation on the way in.
1.1.0 2024-11-13
Gain and phase margin, and a safer fit.
- Gain and phase margin, computed against the fitted model.
- The fit occasionally settled on a negative time constant on an inverse response, and now declines to fit at all.
1.0.0 2024-09-05
The first release: capture, fit and lambda tuning for PI, Windows only.
- Capture over Modbus TCP, a first-order-plus-dead-time fit with residual, and lambda tuning for PI.
- Written over the previous summer for one commissioning job and then tidied up enough to sell.
